The guest speaker was Councillor John Robson, Councillor at Large, who gave a well researched, well presented, thought provoking power point presentation.

April 2019

Main speaker was Marty Grenfell, recently appointed CEO of Tauranga City Council. Precis of his presentation is included in the minutes of the meeting.

This evening’s meeting included the AGM, a report from Rod on the walkover with the roading engineer from the council looking at the poor chipseal resurfacing on Oriental Parade and an Update & News from the Chairman (PRRA) and a longer time for our councillors Leanne Brown and Steve Morris to respond to the points raised by the February speaker. This evening we had two guest speakers.

Maurice O’Reilly — Tauranga City Governance & Planning. How did we get in the mess we are now in and who really controls the direction of the council. Not who you think. One comment was “ TCC CEO is paid according to the number of staff on the payroll. Where is the incentive to cut costs” To see presentation click here

Rod Simpson — Why do we need to chip seal over perfectly good hot mix roads and the shocking standard of recent chip sealing done by Higgins in his street. And then there are the TCC replies to complaints about the chipsealing which are pure “foboff” material designed to create confusion. The guest speaker was Jon Tristram from the Papamoa Surf Life Saving Trust Board and he detailed the growth of the Life Saving Club and the new building to be started in 2019. For full details of Jon’s presentation click here

The guest speaker this month was Andrew Thorpe, Cycling Coordinator, BOP Sport who explained the operations and setup of BOP Sport for the first part of his speech and then focussed on cycling in the bay area, talking about cycling groups, cycle paths and future opportunities. The guest speakers for August were Andrew Mead from the Council and Mark Haseley from NZTA who talked about our transport infrastructure and more particularly when Papamoa East will get an interchange onto the TEL. This was of particular interest to the residents in new subdivisions.
